Wyvern (Drakovai Subtype)

Basic Description---

Wyverns /ˈwɪvɜːrn/  are a Drakovai subspecies. These Drakovai have two hind legs and large, functional wings instead of front legs. When standing on solid ground, they will tilt slightly forward, their tail acting as a ballast to keep them upright.

Wyverns are the smallest of the Drakovai, though still larger than most humanoids. They are considered common Drakovai and are easily documented and encountered due to their prevalence.

General Size & Weight:

  • Null: Approx. 23 ft (7.0 m) Long & and 680 kg (1,500 lb)
  • Prime:
  • Ultima:

Wyverns are most commonly found in the open, rocky plains known as Morarn /morærn/. Wyverns are sociable, typically existing in close family bands of up to 5-6 individuals. The Wyvern diet consists mostly of scavenged food; they are like the vultures of the Drakovai world and will descend upon any battlefield for an easy meal. Because of this, Wyverns typically have a cast iron stomach and can digest almost anything.

They are highly territorial and will defend their den, and the nest within, to the death. Due to their social nature, Wyvern nests are often created with parts of each family members’ hoard– though the nesting adult’s hoard will often be the most prominent.

Adventurers are often warned that one Wyvern means more. Their scavenging diet does not stop them from the occasional pack hunt.

Skills & Attacks---

The below attacks are non-mana based attacks. Mana based attacks are learned by the individual Drakovai as they master the elements and learn to use their magic.

  • Multiattack.
    • The wyvern makes two attacks: one with its bite and one with the claws on its wings. While flying, it can use its talons  in place of one other attack.
  • Bite. / Melee Weapon Attack
    • +7 to hit, reach 10 ft., one creature. Hit: 11 (2d6 + 4) piercing damage.
  • Claws/ Talons. / Melee Weapon Attack
    • +7 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 13 (2d8 + 4) slashing damage.

Subspecies Bonus Skills:

  • Perception: Lets you spot, hear, or otherwise detect the presence of something. Measures your general awareness of your surroundings and the keenness of your senses.
  • Acrobatics: Covers your attempt to stay on your feet in a tricky situation. For some Drakovai this gives them a higher maneuverability when flying.

All Drakovai speak in their own regional form of Drakovian. To learn other languages, your Drakovai must level up both their Intelligence and Wisdom and unlock the perk.

Breeding & Family---

Wyverns are monogamous and mate for life. Typical packs (family units) consist of a breeding pair and their offspring. As parents, they will fiercely defend their eggs and their pack mates. Nesting Wyverns will produce one to two eggs. Both parents will take responsibility to incubate the eggs and guard the nest, with the Layer adult taking the most responsibility.
